Holiday Season in Slow Motion

I've been a contributing member to a pretty good thread over at the WV Bloggers Message Board over the last week or so.

The Film Geek brought opined on how Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday, and Christmas feels way too rushed.

I agree with him on the rushed sentiment, and I've been thinking of ways to slow down my holiday and actually try to enjoy it for the first time since we've had kids.

I'm not sure how I'll end up doing, but I'm going to try and "take it all in" as best I can. I wish we could make both of our families just come to us on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day....but that would be rude and inconsiderate (plus, it would probably take a nosedive anyways).

So, I'm going to try and take in all the sights, smells, and memories as best I can this year without being caught up in the "rush" of the moment.

It probably helps that we've finished our Christmas shopping already and we don't have to fight idiots at the mall for Elmo's, bottles of Bath and Body Lotion, or Books.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Being thoughtful of it is the first step, I think. I hope I can get it done this year, too. good luck and enjoy.

Go for it Off Route!
Too many of us get caught in the stress and go-go-go of the holidays and assume it has to be that way. It doesn't, and it sounds like you're halfway there.

Damon and I have had it rough for 14 years. Both of our parents are divorced and remarried...meaning 4 houses to visit. We used to dread the holidays...all of them! So, we started visiting homes the week before Christmas. If they didn't like it, then they could come to our house. Plus, it wasn't fair to the kids to let them open all their presents and then leave for the rest of the day. Don't worry about hurting other people's feelings, do for your family first!
