Jim Webb=Done!

Wow. Sorry about your luck, Virginia Democrats. George Allen will be going back to Washington.

Sorry, Webb, you freak of nature.

Let me make sure I understand your point: One's creative, fictional writing trumps real-life, racist arrogance.

Correct?

C'mon...your reference is the Drudge Report and the press release of the fucker he's running against. And, the writing--albeit poorly done--is fiction. Big George really did put those deer heads in the mailboxes of his neighbors' mailboxes.

If you're going to run a campaign discussing your "values," then "creative, fictional writing" is most definitely in play.

It would've been different if it had just been sex (either hetero or homosexual), the point I was making was in reference to the father/son incest that he fictionally wrote about.

Because his opponent gave the press release HAS NO BEARING on the facts he was presenting.

Fiction is beside the point. A candidate's life is "in bounds" for both Democrats and Republicans. Karl Rove, though you people act as if he is some dark force disrupting the chi of the universe, didn't start the personal attacks in politics.

Oh, to your comment about "Big George" and the deer? Prove it.

I hope that my personal values are not judged by any fictional writing that I may do. Nor, probably, would you wish that about yourself. It was fiction, about characters. Not an autobiography, nor a letter to Penthouse Forum.

Dude, I have to agree with Film Geek, the Drudge Report is pretty weak as it's a known dumping ground for Republican smear campaigns as a backdoor into legitimate media outlets.

Film Geek, it's not the simple fact he's being judged by his personal writing....it's what you can find in that personal writing that people are calling into question. You can also say that you hope you would not be judged in such a way, and you wouldn't be....as long as you weren't running for political office. You appear to be simply looking at this matter in a more general way than I am. It's the specifics of his writing that just lost Webb the election. Sex sells, it's true. Most voters wouldn't have any problem acknowledging that, but it's the vulgar nature of his writing that is at the heart of the matter in question.

Jedi, you can attack the Drudge Report all you want, but the simple fact is this: The guy is usually on top of stuff the "old" media fails to realize is a "story" until two or three days later. Sorry you think it's "weak," but I would expect you to say no less.

Dude, that's the same thing...

If you're going to run a campaign discussing your "values," then "creative, fictional writing" is most definitely in play. . . . Fiction is beside the point.

Well which is it? And do I assume that you were up in arms over Scooter Libby's bear-on-girl sex scenes or the stuff Lynne Chaney wrote in a former life? As someone who thinks of himself as a potential writer of fiction (lack of output arguing to the contrary), I'd had to think that someone might someday try to use what one of my characters does against me!

That should be "hate to think . . ."

Film Geek, and JDB (to an extent):

By saying "it's the same thing" is an attempt to make a semantic argument. I'm saying it is not semantics. You're trying to generalize the fiction argument by saying it's just fiction. I'm being more specific and saying it may be fiction, but here's what it says. Again, you can continue to make your "it's just the same thing" argument, but your wide "brushstrokes" will miss the meaning underneath.

My point in writing this extremely brief post wasn't to gloat or say, "Hey, look at these sick, perverted Democrats, all you moral and upright Republicans." The main point at the heart of the matter is this: If you're going to run for office, pretty much everything in your life is laid bare for the public to peruse and judge you upon. Whether you're Dem or GOP, is irrelevant.

Oh, and JDB: Allen and Webb are running for Senate in an extremely hostile political environment. "Scooter" Libby and Lynn Chaney? Not running for office. There's the difference.

Oh, and one last thing (this is why I love the righteous indignation from you libs). I love watching you guys try to downplay any other news source other than your progressive bastions such as CNN, MSNBC, CBS, et cetera.

Dude, I get most of my political news from you, JDB, and "The Daily Show". So nah nya!

Oh come on 75. Don't you know you can't win with these guys? Republicans are the devil and the democrats do no wrong. It is evident with the whole Foley case. While I think what Foley did was wrong, what Gerry Studds did was much worse. Foley gets executed by the press and Studds gets censured. Yep, luv them libruls!

Well. I made the mistake of reading the DRUDGE REPORT! *suddenly not hungry for lunch*

Yep, it's pretty craptacular (to borrow a phrase) isn't it Sitsonchair?
